ObjectiveTo build a culture of public speaking among teenagers.

Classic Speaking Idol was a public-speaking competition for teenagers run by the Leo Club of Mahakali Classic, which Dheeraj joined in July 2017. Rather than a single stage event, the 2017 edition travelled: audition rounds were held municipality by municipality across Kanchanpur, with a jury selecting speakers for later rounds.

The audition rounds, in his words

Today’s blast at Shuklaphanta and Krishnapur municipality, with very tough competition among 41 awesome teen speakers! Our fantastic jury welcomed 6 candidates for Round 2… Now I am fully confident for the mission of development of speaking culture among teenagers!

Further rounds followed in Laljhadi Rural Municipality and Punarbas Municipality, where 32 teen speakers took part, and in Belauri and Beldandi, where four of twenty participants advanced to the second round in Mahendranagar. Local papers carried the selections and the eventual winner.

A 2018 edition was held in Kavrepalanchok. The sash worn by its finalists summarises the format: seven auditions, 466 participants, three rounds, training and motivation.
